Brown University's Open Curriculum means no general education requirements. No compulsory maths for the poet, no forced literature for the engineer. You can even take courses pass/fail.

Sounds like a dream. For some students, it is.

But freedom cuts both ways. Without a structure telling you what to take, you have to know what you're curious about and actually go after it. Students who thrive at Brown tend to be self-driven, intellectually restless, and comfortable designing their own path.

That's also what Brown looks for in applications. It's not enough to say you love flexibility. Your profile should show you've already been exploring on your own.

Wondering which universities fit the way you learn? Let's talk. Link in bio.

Getting published in a research journal sounds like something reserved for graduate students, professors, and people with lab access. It isn't. High schoolers can do it too, and more of them are doing it than you'd think.

On October 24, PIPPAMS x Discover is running a free live session that breaks down exactly how a high school student goes from having an interest to holding an actual publication credit, without needing a PhD mentor or university lab access.

If your college application list has even one reach school on it, this is 45 minutes worth setting aside.

Model UN is one of the most common activities we see on Indian applications. Which is exactly the problem.

Attending conferences shows interest. It doesn't show what you can do. Admissions officers want to see initiative and impact, and that usually comes from the moments where you stopped participating and started building.

Organising a conference means finding sponsors, handling logistics, recruiting a team, and dealing with things going wrong at the last minute. That's real leadership, and it gives you something concrete to write about: how many schools came, what you learned, what you'd do differently.

You don't need to start something huge. You just need to take one step beyond showing up.

Want help figuring out where your activities can go next? DM us or visit the link in bio.

If you've been meaning to register for the PIPPAMS x Discover webinar and haven't gotten around to it yet, this is your reminder.

Spots are filling up, and this session only happens once. It's 45 minutes that could genuinely change how your college application reads to an admissions officer, covering how to find a real research topic, how to actually get published, and what that process looks like from start to finish.

Most families treat December as a pause: Early Decision and Early Action results are in, and whatever happens next feels like it's out of their hands.

It isn't. One of Essai's four core college-listing strategy sessions happens right in this window, immediately after early results land, and it's one of the most strategically important moments in the entire cycle.

If a student is accepted, we help close things out properly and manage any remaining formalities. If deferred, we move straight into Letter of Continued Interest strategy, using the extra time before Regular Decision to strengthen the case with real updates.

If rejected, we recalibrate the Regular Decision list immediately, using everything learned from how the ED round actually played out, not just how it was planned.

December isn't downtime in the process. It's a checkpoint that determines how well-positioned a student is heading into the final and often most competitive stretch of the cycle.

Got ED or EA results back and not sure what the next move is? Let's figure it out together.

If your essay draft still isn't finished by October, that's not necessarily a red flag, but if it hasn't moved past a first draft, that is. By this point in the cycle, the writing phase should largely be behind you. October is when the real differentiation happens: revision.

A first draft gets the story down. Revision is where that story becomes sharp, specific, and genuinely reflective of the student's voice rather than a generic version of an interesting experience.

This is the stage where vague sentences get cut, where a strong opening actually earns its place, and where an essay stops sounding like "what an admissions officer wants to hear" and starts sounding like an actual person.

We put every essay through multiple structured editorial rounds precisely because a single read-through never catches everything. Strategic coherence, voice, clarity, and submission readiness each need their own dedicated pass, not one rushed final look before the deadline.

If your essay still feels like a rough draft in mid-October, it's not too late, but it is time to move from writing mode into revision mode.

Interviews get treated as a footnote by most applicants, squeezed in between essay revisions and portal checks with barely a thought given to actual preparation. Admissions officers don't see it that way.

For schools that offer optional or required interviews, it's often the only moment in the entire process where a student speaks for themselves, in real time, without an essay draft or an editor between them and the reader.

We actively manage every optional and required interview offered by each university on a student's list, so nothing gets missed or scheduled late.

That's paired with one personalized prep session and one personalized prep document per student, built around that specific student's actual profile, story, and likely questions, not generic interview tips that could apply to anyone.

Treating an interview as an afterthought is one of the easiest ways to undercut months of strong application work in a single 20-minute conversation. Treating it with real preparation is one of the easiest ways to stand out.

Have an interview coming up and not sure how to prepare? Reach out and we'll walk you through it.

Every year on October 15th, the world marks the birth anniversary of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, a scientist, President, and above all, a lifelong advocate for education and student potential. "You have to dream before the dream comes true," he said, and it's a line that captures something we see play out with every student we work with: the dream almost always comes before the strategy, the essay, the portfolio, or the acceptance letter.

World Students' Day isn't about grades or rankings. It's a reminder that every applicant behind every application is a young person figuring out who they want to become, and that the process, however stressful it feels in the moment, exists to help them get there with clarity rather than chaos.

To every student mid-application right now: the work is hard, but it's building toward something real. Keep going.

Have a college application question on your mind today? Drop it in the comments or reach out; we're here to help.

One real case. One decision. No right answer.

Students from around the world took on The Essai Casebook 2026. They read the situation, weighed the trade-offs, and defended a single call in 1,500 words, the way analysts actually do it.

Congratulations to our top 5:
